I Heart Faces~Smirk

Last weekend I had the opportunity to take photos of this sweet little girl.  I haven’t really used “props” before, so I figured I’d give it a shot.  She had so much fun playing with the umbrella!   This shot just makes me smile because she and I were having such fun hamming it up on the beach.  I’m just getting to the point where I’m taking photos of other peoples’ children, and I must say I love it.  The beautiful thing about photography is that the person behind the camera is just as much a part of the photo as the person in front of the camera.  It’s a lovely thing.

Scavenger Hunt Sunday~Sept. 19

1.  Dream

Can’t you just hear the Top Gun music playing in background?  I love everything about this shot:  their expressions, what they are wearing, the location, the washed out gray sky.  And, I know without question, which one is Maverick and which one is Goose!

2.  Clean

Shooting through double glass on the dryer is not easy!  In our house, the laundry room doubles as an office–I call it the loffice.  The boys were pestering me the other day, so I asked if they wanted to take a silly picture, and this was their response.  I played around with it in Photoshop to try to take off some of the yellow cast, but don’t feel I had much luck.  The one thing I do like about this shot is that I’m in it;-)

3.  Currency

This is the inside of one of the boys banks.  They have been earning change for some little jobs around the house.  I like the way the change reflects on the inside of the bank.

4.  Pair

Ok~with twins, pretty much any picture around these parts involves a pair.  I think this one is fun because they both have a similar pose, yet you can still see just how different they are in build, hair texture, etc.

5.  Square

I love their little hands.  It’s one part of them that still holds on to a bit of baby pudge:-)

Love Your Shot! Link Up

This week over at Love That Shot, the challenge was to share a favorite photo we took this week.  Last Saturday I had the opportunity to take photos for a friend’s little girl.  While I’m used to taking photos of my boys, this was one of the first times I’ve taken photos for someone else.  I had such fun with her.  It was also the first time I’ve exclusively used my 50mm fixed lens, which I have generally struggled getting the hang of.  I was, however, thrilled with how the photos turned out.  This one in particular touches my heart.  It shows such sweetness and innocence.  I love the detail of the wisps of hair and tiny sand flecks on her face.  While we started shooting at 4 p.m., the sun was still pretty bright.  For this shot, I had the camera set to ISO 100, f 2.8, and shutter speed 1600.

The Monk Seal

Last week we heard news that there was a monk seal on the beach near our house.  On the way home from school, we stopped by the beach to see it; however, it had already made its way back into the ocean.  This made the boys very upset.  Ever since then they have asked if we could go back to the beach and say, “baby seal, please come back out of the water.”  Well, as luck would have it, I decided to take a different way home this afternoon, and there was a monk seal right there on the beach!  Whenever one comes ashore, the base officials rope off the area and put up warning/keep your distance signs.  Even with this, we were able to get right near the seal.  My day ended with two very happy boys.
