Project 52 | Week 17 | Facial Features

Welcome to week 17 of Project 52!  This week’s theme is “facial features.”  For this prompt, I decided to pull out a few of the most expressive shots I got from the Boston Marathon.  For those who didn’t follow this year’s Boston Marathon, and let’s be honest–most people don’t, it was an extremely hot day.  The weather was an unseasonably 87 degrees, which makes for difficult marathon running.  We live near the marathon route at mile 16/17 in the hills of Newton and had a front row seat to the action.  It was a spectacular thing to see these athletes competing.

This particular girl was literally fighting for every single inch.  The focus in her eyes reveals her fight.  She was not about to give up.

I love the look on this woman’s face.  She was near the front of the women’s pack and was working it.  Like I said, it was hot.  Summer sunshine beating down hot.  She represents, to me, the determination expressed by all of the runners.  They all showed a never give up attitude.

This is one of my favorite pictures from the day.  This guy smiled the entire time I could see him.  He just looked genuinely happy to be there and to be running.  I love the juxtaposition of the girls cutting across the track and his expressed joy.

Now head on over to check out the talented Melinda Meredith HERE.  Join us next week when we tackle “temptation.”

Wow – you really caught some determination and happiness here! It’s funny – 87 where I live is a nice, cool day! haha

Great shots – love the determination you’ve captured in the girl’s face in the very first one. What an achievement for her!
